Novigrad (Cittanova), is a small Istrian town built in the Roman period and over the years has maintained its charm of fishing village and its walls near the fjord. In more recent years it has become a destination for tourists coming from all over Europe and looking for: sea, good food and rest.
To visit the church of S. Pelagio, famous not so much for its majesty, but because it faces the square in front of the sea and because it is dedicated to the patron saint of Novigrad that is celebrated for three days at the end of August. Also k.u.k. Navy Museum, a concentrate of history that in every corner reserves an heirloom as well as visible naval models.
Novigrad is undoubtedly one of the favorite destinations for lovers of food and wine tourism and good Istrian wine. The city of Novigrad is famous for the scallop. The scallop festival is held in June in honor of this shell of the Adriatic just in Novigrad. On a table several meters long, other shell-based dishes are collected in addition to the scallop-based delicacies.
